The
developed concept for a series of events (from 11th
till 17th
of February) oscillates between theater, stage design, performance,
dance and music, scenography, fine arts and architecture.
The specificities of various points of view and ways of looking at
paintings are at the core of the established exhibition model that is
being realized with the help of several infrastructures of seeing
(ranging from a microscope to a webcam or a virtual camera). The room
itself in this respect, doesn’t just serve the representation of
objects, but is rather hosting a sequenced exhibition, scripting
modes of attunement between paintings, performers, musicians and
visitors via orchestrated light/sound interplay and articulation of
space. A
percussion performance by Marco Kleebauer amidst the arrangement of
free-hanging canvases, featuring an implementation of an
audio-reactive light-vibrancy marks the peak of the exhibition’s
resonance between various forms of audio-visual arts.
The
exhibition is entitled fehlerhaft and it showcases the work of Hallgrímur Árnason: a series of
paintings by an icelandic artist, differing in scale and luring
intensity that fluctuate between levels of abstraction and
figuration. Through variation of texture, materiality and mixing
techniques the “(im)balance of chaos” can be revealed via
accentuation of the targeted view. Therefore, the focus of the
curatorial concept is guided by the very way a painting is perceived:
stared upon, examined, overlooked, contemplated about and maybe even
[re]created further in the imaginative gaze of the observer. In other
words, fehlerhaft has its goal to challenge the means by which one conceives of an
art-piece nowadays, by treating the exhibition not simply as a “space
design”, but as a stage[d] script for a series of mediated sights
onto displayed works (paintings, performances, music-concerts) and
their reception by the audience.
